How perfectly engaging and intriguing is that "Perks of Being a Wallflower" trailer? We've been thinking about it and re-watching it since its debut during our 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show, and the one thing that we can't get out of our heads — in addition to all those great visuals and actors — is that catchy song playing in the background.

The song is "It's Time" by Imagine Dragons. For those who have yet to discover this buzzworthy band from Las Vegas, get thee to downloading more of their infectious, lighthearted tunes.

Since forming in Vegas in 2009, Imagine Dragons have had to work their way toward their recent success, a voyage that has certainly had its share of ups and downs along the way.

"I remember one gig [where] we were playing a casino in Vegas, and it was a really small stage," guitarist Wayne Sermon recalled during an interview with MTV News recently. "We played a four-hour set — we'd do those two to three times a week — and we were exhausted, and [frontman] Dan [Reynolds] passes out in the middle of the last song, falls on the drum set, the drums go everywhere, and it was horrible, but we finished the song."

"And all these drunk guys were like, 'Wooo!' " Reynolds laughed. "But it didn't hurt; I was so tired, it was sort of nice to have a little break."

The band has finally started to see the fruits of their labor, with "It's Time" climbing the charts, the debut of their music video and plans to begin work on their first full-length EP. But they aren't letting any of that go to their heads.

"It's crazy. We've been a band for three years, living on the road, eating bean burritos every day, and we're still eating bean burritos every day, but it's been incredible to see the support that we've gotten," Reynolds said. "We really owe so much to our fans who, from the very beginning, have been sharing the music. And we live in a world where things can happen so quickly, and we're glad we've had three years to really prepare. ... We've been doing it for a little while, and it feels good ... and right."

Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what went down at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards!

Lil Wayne has a storied and tireless work ethic, and beginning next week fans will be able to see exactly what makes Weezy tick when Tunechi's buddy DJ Scoob Doo launches his new site BreadOverBed.com.

Scoob is a veteran DJ who also serves as Wayne's videographer. Launching the site adds yet another bullet point to his ever-growing résumé. "This Bread Over Bed thing is more like a lifestyle, it's more like a way of life," he explained of the overall concept.

The video site will feature exclusive footage with the Young Money boss in his working environment. Viewers will be able to see all the sacrifice that comes hand-in-hand with Weezy's success.

"There's no quit, there's no stopping, there's no such thing as a break, and the best part about it is there's no reason why — the reason is you," Weezy told MTV News in an exclusive clip announcing his involvement with the new site. "The reason why I don't stop is because of me, the reason why I don't sleep is because of me, the reason why I don't take breaks is because of me. I don't have to. It's natural."

Wayne got his start in rap as a preteen and has since released nine solo albums, three group albums with the Hot Boys, a collaboration LP with Birdman and too many mixtapes to count. Couple that with his Young Money record label, TrukFit clothing line and various other business ventures and it's a wonder that the New Orleans rap great gets any sleep at all. That's where the concept for Bread Over Bed comes in, the site will house video content from artists, athletes and notable folks who make their lives their work. Scoob will follow up the site launch with an all-star celebration at Pole Position Raceway in Jersey City, New Jersey.

"A lot of times when people think of a job, it's like, 'OK, I got to work, I leave work.' This Bread Over Bed thing, it doesn't end," Scoob Doo told MTV News. "It's a lifestyle that just continues. It never has a punch-out time and it never has a day off." Check in with MTV News for more exclusive content leading up to the launch of Scoob Doo's Bread Over Bed website.

Whitney Houston's mother, gospel great Cissy Houston, is prepping a memoir on her famous daughter that promises to tell the "unabridged and unbelievable" story of Whitney's career.

According to the Associated Press the untitled book is scheduled to come out in February, one year after the Grammy-winning singer died
of accidental drowning in her Beverly Hills hotel bathtub on the eve of the Grammys at age 48.

"When I lost my daughter Nippy (Whitney Houston's nickname), the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman," Cissy Houston said in a statement released by the book's publisher. "In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter's true story.

Publisher HarperCollins promised that Cissy Houston would write with, "candor, honesty and respect," in chronicling her daughter's career heights, as well as Whitney's legendary drug problems, tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown and her own grief.

"She will tell the unabridged and unbelievable story of her daughter's life as well as her own, addressing Whitney's brightest and darkest moments while helping fans around the world understand the complexities of this extraordinary star who died much too soon," the publisher said.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the book will be donated to Newark, New Jersey's New Hope Baptist Church, the house of worship where Whitney grew up singing in the choir, as well as the church where her funeral was held.

"Ultimately, Cissy will go behind the headlines to show the true, human side of this strong, successful yet complicated musical icon, capturing the dramatic depths and soaring range of an extraordinary woman, along with the pain and heartbreak of a grieving mother as she struggles with impossible loss," according to the publisher.

Before Houston's book hits shelves, a documentary focusing on the 48 hours before this year's Grammy awards will premier on June 11 at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The 26-minute movie will look at how the show dealt with Houston's death and include interviews with host LL Cool J, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen and Jennifer Hudson.

Janet Jackson Producing Documentary On Transgender Community

'Truth' will look at struggles of transgender people around the world.

Janet Jackson has spent her career bouncing from TV to music and movies, but now the R&B legend is moving into the producing game.

According to the The Advocate Jackson has agreed to executive produce a documentary called "Truth" about the lives of transgender people around the world. Not only is Jackson, 46, working behind-the-scenes on the movie, but she is also expected to sit for some on-camera interviews as well. The movie will start filming this summer and in a statement announcing the film Jackson said she agreed to sign on to help stop discrimination against the transgender community.

"All people are very important to me. I've been fortunate to make friends and learn about very different lives," said Jackson in a statement. "'Truth' is our small chance to ask that you try and understand someone who lives their life in a way that is a little bit different from yours, even though all of our hearts are the same. We want to stop the hate and find understanding."

Director Robert Jason, who previously directed the Style Network documentary "Style Exposed: Born Male, Living Female," about four transgender New Yorkers promised that Jackson will play a prominent part in the finished product.

"Janet Jackson will take us on a visually innovative, cerebral journey through the turbulent lives of transgendered people of all ages around the world and their epic struggle for equality," he said in a statement announcing the project. "This film will highlight landmark mainstream stories and provide a glimpse at others that will change the gender landscape of the world forever. Just as it is hard to believe that there ever was a time when different components of society were required to use separate drinking fountains, it is as incredible that one's gender expression remains just such a target for discrimination."

Jackson's involvement in the documentary comes no the heels of last month's news that Against Me! singer Tom Gabel has come out as transgender
and is now living as a woman, Laura Jane Grace. Gabel became the most high-profile major-label musician to undergo a gender transformation.

Fiona Apple's The Idler Wheel: Uneasy Listening

Bigger Than the Sound explores the depths of the willfully difficult, epically titled album, Apple's first in seven years.
By James Montgomery

Let's just get this out of the way: Fiona Apple's new album is called The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do. Yes, it is a comically long title. And yes, it is only further proof that she is crazy.

Neither of those things is actually important, mind you, which is why I won't mention either of them again. And yet, they seem to be all people are focusing on in the lead-up to the album's release June 19 — though I suspect that has more to do with the fact that most people haven't heard it yet than it does any preconceived notions/biases folks may have about Apple herself (note: I am probably wrong about this). And here's why:

The album is fantastic. It is a skeletal, searing thing, a collection of stripped-to-the-core songs that dig deep and then just keep on burrowing, moving forever away from the light. It is a psychological, almost pathological exploration of one's desires and destructive tendencies — which, if the recent New York Times profile on her is correct, includes compulsively walking up a hill until her feet ached and her knees gave out on her. Sound like a fun listen? It's not. Because it's not supposed to be fun with Fiona Apple.

Unlike her last album (2005's Extraordinary Machine), The Idler Wheel is by no means a pretty record, nor is it a particularly easy one to get through: Musically, it is brutally sparse, reflecting the years she's spent in relative isolation ("I walk my dog at dawn because I don't like people to be around," she told the Times), and the songs often feature little more than Apple's voice — which is still capable of airy trills but now also features a jarring, ragged edge — and doomy, claustrophobic piano chords, plus an accompaniment of percussive touches (drums, handclaps, machinery, etc.). It's not a stretch to say there were more instruments employed on the title track of Machine than the entirety of Idler Wheel, though that less-is-more approach works to wearying effect: There is a tangible heft to each breath, each note. As is often the case with solitude, even the silences are weighty.

And lyrically, well, Apple is her usual vivisecting self, though for the first time, she seems willing to accept most of the blame. On opening track "Every Single Night," she shouts "Every single night/ Is a fight with my brain," and on the lacerating "Left Alone," she whimpers "How can I ask anyone to love me/ When all I do is beg to be left alone?" She likens a lover to a werewolf for the way he's devoured her, but admits she "provided a full moon," prostrates herself at the feet of her (former) flame, author Jonathan Ames, and, above all else, punishes herself mercilessly: On the standout track "Valentine," she sings "While you were watching someone else/ I stared at you and cut myself," and things never really get much cheerier than that.

So, why, you might ask, would you ever want to listen to an album so sonically austere and lyrically self-loathing? Well, mostly because these kinds of records just don't come around all that often. In a lot of ways — its stark arrangements, sonic dissonance and psychological scope — it recalls Patti Smith's epochal Horses album, and while it's certainly not as important (at least not yet, if ever), it's equally as bracing. And much like Smith's debut, it's an endeavor in every sense of the word. But sometimes these things have to be that way. The best stuff is usually also the most difficult.

The Idler Wheel represents Fiona Apple casting a light on the past few years of her life, all the dark places she's been and all the deep expanses she's found within herself. And in a move as masochistic as it is marvelous, she makes every effort to drag the listener through it all. It's almost as if she made it as an endurance test of sorts — with each crashing, cross-hatched piano stroke and every guttural wail, she seems to be saying, "If I made it through all this tumult, you can certainly make it through this album." Some of her fans will be up to the task, others will not; you get the feeling neither outcome is really all that important to Apple. The simple fact that the album exists is enough for her. And it should be enough for you, too, especially if you love music that challenges and cuts. After all, sometimes love hurts. But the pain is worth it.

What are you expecting from Apple's new album? Let us know in the comments.

Beyonce Opening Act Luke James Motivated By Her 'Drive'

After opening for B in Atlantic City, New Orleans newcomer tells MTV News what he's learned from the Queen.
By Rebecca Thomas

It was the morning after Beyoncé's triumphant second show in Atlantic City when we bumped into Luke James by an elevator bank at the Revel resort. R&B's reigning diva had tapped the New Orleans native to warm up the capacity crowds as she staged her comeback run over Memorial Day weekend, and James had the unmistakable bop of a man who knows he's done something ... special.

Signed to Island Def Jam but still largely unknown to all but soul-music diehards, James had just the night before slayed a roomful of women that included the first lady, Michelle Obama. Armed with a flirty falsetto, James tossed long-stemmed red roses and lines like, "Before I met you, girl, I never knew my heart could dance/ I was just a broken record of one-night stands," from his standout single "I Want You." So what did the handsome upstart think when he heard he'd be opening up for the Grammy winner?

"The first thing I thought I was, 'OK, I need a band, gotta get the guys together, what we gon' wear, how we gon' do it 'cause I know she's gonna do it ... and what songs," James recalled when he stopped by the MTV newsroom, fresh from the four-night stint.

After jotting down a few notes on his mental checklist, Luke let himself absorb the moment: "And then I'm thinking, 'This is just an amazing opportunity. ... I was just elated."

James has discovered up close what it means be a member of Queen B's court, not only because of the A.C. gigs, but because of their shared connection to Frank Gatson Jr., Beyoncé's longtime choreographer/creative director and now James' manager. Dressed casually in a denim button-down and a red knit cap that called to mind old photos of Marvin Gaye, the singer paused for a heartbeat before relaying what lessons he picked up from Mrs. Carter.

"What I learned from Beyoncé is just the focus, the drive and to stay creative and to always give, just keep giving," he said. "Throughout the years that she's been doing it, since Destiny's Child to now, she's been giving.

"So this is the beginning for me ... I just want to remain giving and always [be] a necessity to people, you know?" he added thoughtfully. "Giving [fans] what they need. At the same time, it's basically giving me what I need."

Wahlberg heckles, Fassbender hugs it out and Russell Brand gets very close to our correspondent.
By Josh Horowitz

Photo: MTV News

Well, that was a hell of a Movie Awards, wasn't it? Johnny Depp playing with the Black Keys?!? That moment when Christian Bale got choked up? Russell Brand's scathing monologue? And then that other stuff ... with that thing that happened ... yeah, I haven't seen one minute of the show yet. Literally. I'm totally serious.

Such was my odd position and perspective on the MTV Movie Awards. For the second year in a row, I was backstage for the entirety of the show, roaming what we call "the patio," where the pretty people laugh, drink, smoke and possibly hook up so that their children — even prettier people — can show up at awards shows 20 years hence.

While I'm bummed I missed another memorable show (home recording device, don't fail me now!), I wouldn't trade my gig for a front-row seat to the big show, not with the stuff I got to see. So here you go, the backstage stuff nobody saw.

Live Television Is Stressful ... but Awesome
Hopefully you guys caught our red-carpet pre-show. And hopefully if you did, it looked like a relatively smooth if loose affair. Well, let me pull the curtain back just a bit. Live red-carpet shows are insane. Don't get me wrong: We had the greatest team in the business producing our show, but we didn't have a psychic who could predict that the guest we were supposed to open the show with would be MIA. Or that certain interviews would go on twice as long as scheduled. Or ... well, a lot of things. Suffice to say when I took the "winner's walk" off the main stage during one of my live bits, I wasn't sure if I would find anyone waiting to interview let alone Julianne Hough, much less Julianne and her little nephew Aidan. That smile I had when I saw her? That, my friends, was relief.

Wahlberg Heckles Too
By now you've no doubt heard (or saw) that there was a heckler who directed some choice words towards the lovely Mila Kunis at the beginning of the show. And from what I gather, her "Ted" co-star Mark Wahlberg came to her defense (remember, I still haven't seen the show). Well, just minutes before, just as I was seconds from going live on the patio with Emma Watson, I heard my name being screamed from afar. I looked up and there he was, Marky Mark, giving me crap while I tried to look like I was composed. Bastard.

Size Matters
I don't know why this surprises me but Michael Fassbender is having a ball. If you were one of the most acclaimed actors of your generation and the size of your penis was marveled at by the world, I guess you'd be in a good mood too. Backstage the big man (talking about his acting ability here, of course) was holding court. Every time I turned around, he was hugging another actor (Charlize Theron, Russell Brand, Rob Riggle?!?), looking like he was having the time of his life.

Russell Brand and I Are Having a Baby
My relationship with Russell Brand is complicated. He likes to touch me. Everywhere. And often. I knew as soon as Russell signed on to host the Movie Awards that I'd be touched inappropriately at some point. He saved it all for the end. As he walked off the stage at the conclusion of the show, kissing and high-fiving people left and right, Russell embraced me with all of his might and then — I will say this in the hopes that it relieves me of years of therapy — he repeatedly pushed his pelvis into mine in a rhythmic motion one usually reserves for a significant other. Billy Crystal didn't do that to Ryan Seacrest at the Oscars. He didn't, right?

'Hunger Games' And MTV Movie Awards: A Budding Romance?

New franchise collects four awards at Sunday's show, signaling what may become a 'Twilight'-esque Movie Awards dominance.

The relationship between the MTV Movie Awardsand "The Twilight Saga," which picked up fourth-consecutive wins for Best Kiss and Best Movie during Sunday's show, is well-documented. The stuff of pop-culture legend, some might say. But 2012 marked the beginning of a franchise with strong potential to pick up the torch for years to come: "The Hunger Games."

The inaugural entry in the big-screen adaptation of the young adult trilogy already surpassed all of the "Twilight" movies on the all-time domestic box-office list, collecting nearly $400 million before being surpassed by "Marvel's the Avengers."

On Sunday, during a telecast that saw host Russell Brand exclaiming "Twilight! Hunger Games!" multiple times throughout his monologue, the newly minted box-office juggernaut swept up four MTV Movie Awards, including Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Fight and Best On-Screen Transformation. Despite the dire circumstances surrounding their characters in the series, there was no shortage of celebration among the cast during a series of acceptance speeches that included Elizabeth Banks getting hauled off by a shirtless Joe Manganiello.

"I'm a little parched, yeah. I need some water!" Banks told MTV News just after she was surrounded by the cast of "Magic Mike," who were all channeling their male stripper personas from the movie. Manganiello, Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey presented her with the Golden Popcorn and the four of them played the moment for laughs. Even Banks' husband, sportswriter and producer Max Handelman, was seen smiling during a cutaway. "Honestly, thank God I had those guys up there so I could make a little bit of it," she said. "I just wanted to have fun with it."

MTV News also went backstage to catch up with Josh Hutcherson, who joined an esteemed group of leading men that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise when he took grabbed the Golden Popcorn for Best Male Performance. "I've wanted to hold a Golden Popcorn since I was like 4 years old. This is incredible," the 19-year-old told the audience when he accepted the award. "To even be up here is blowing my mind right now."

When asked about all those casting rumors surrounding fan favorite District 4 tribute Finnick Odair in "Catching Fire," neither Hutcherson nor Banks would speculate. (Fellow Best Fight winner Alexander Ludwig did tell us he had his eyes on Ryan Reynolds, though.)

"Everybody that's ever been mentioned seems fantastic," Banks said. "I'm sure they'll find the right fit."

And although Hutcherson wasn't able to give us specifics about the film's rumored change of location, he did open up about his meeting with the film's director, Francis Lawrence ("I Am Legend"). "I just had lunch with him a couple days ago and he's fantastic. He's so smart and really has his finger on the pulse of the story, and I love the way he's going to structure the script. The first thing he said to me was, 'I want to make the movie out of the book. I want the book to be the best movie possible.' That was immediately what he led with, which meant a lot to me because the books mean a lot to me."

If there's one thing we could confirm at the show, it was that producers definitely did not find the right fit when it came to its archery expert. Jennifer Lawrence with a Steve Martin-esque arrow through her head already ranks among some of the more classic Movie Awards comedy bits ever. In the short piece, "Community" star and comedian Joel McHale played Lester Boonshaft, the worst bow and arrow "expert" ever imagined.

Before the show, Banks helped MTV After Hours reveal some lost audition tapes from "The Hunger Games" featuring several actors who didn't make the cut, including Chris Colfer from "Glee," Chloë Grace Moretz ("Kick-Ass"), Clark Gregg ("The Avengers") and action-movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme.

2 Chainz found himself in trouble with airport security while trying to catch an outbound flight from New York two weeks ago, and after his brush with the law, the Atlanta rapper is being more careful than ever.

2 Chainz was arrested at LaGuardia Airport on May 22 while trying to make his way to North Carolina to rejoin Drake on the Club Paradise Tour. But a four-finger gold ring in his carry-on bag was flagged by security, who considered the ring to be brass knuckles and took 2 Chainz into custody. He was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. But don't bet on this ever happening again.

"No more rings. [I'm] super-light on the rings," 2 Chainz told MTV News backstage at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert over the weekend. "I learn from all my mistakes. I don't think I made a mistake, but who wants to go through that type of stuff again? Me just coming back through the same airport again was kind of traumatic. It's a hurdle that we jumped over. Now we moving on."

After 2 Chainz's arrest, several members of the hip-hop community took to Twitter to defend him, explaining that he'd sported the harmless ring at a photo shoot just days earlier.

"They tried to assassinate my character, they tried to assassinate my swag," the "Spend It" rapper explained in an interview immediately following his release. "It was just a negative dilemma earlier where someone misconstrued a piece of jewelry for a weapon and stuff."

2 Chainz hit the stage at the annual Summer Jam concert in New Jersey on Sunday, joining Big Sean and Young Jeezy during their sets to perform "Mercy" and "SupaFreak." His debut album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, is set to drop on August 14, led by the single "No Lie," featuring Drake.

We already know that Kristen Stewart had at least two reasons to be in a great mood during and after Sunday night's MTV Movie Awards: two more tubs of golden popcorn for "Twilight" and the smashing success of her latest film, "Snow White and the Huntsman."

The Rupert Sanders-directed flick, which also starred Charlize Theron as the evil Queen Ravenna and Sam Claflin as the charming Prince William, debuted at #1 at the box office this weekend after raking in $56.3 million domestically, marking the fourth-largest opening of 2012.

When MTV News caught up with Stewart and her co-star Chris Hemsworth after they presented the award for Best Female Performance, we asked them for reactions to the film's positive reviews and overall reception among fans.

"Yeah, it was a relief, wasn't it?" Hemsworth said. "The thing is, people love the movie, the fans are excited about it, that's the biggest pat on the back, that's the biggest reward."

Stewart agreed, adding that she would have been proud of the film regardless of its reception.

"I really dig this one so much. Like [Hemsworth] said, we're very proud," she said. "It could have done nothing and we'd still be proud of it, so it's cool that people sort of raised their hands and are like, 'I like it too!' It's sort of like, 'Really?' "

While the film wasn't yet vying for the Golden Popcorn in the Best Kiss or Movie of the Year categories, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" still had a big night at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.

The Internet has been buzzing as Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller were on hand at the pre-show for their debut appearance as a cast, premiering the movie's highly anticipated trailer.

The clip previewed several key scenes fans are itching to see in the adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age tale, which follows Charlie (Lerman) as he navigates adolescence with the help of his new friends Sam (Watson) and Patrick (Miller), the most notable being the "epic" tunnel scene.

The beginning of the trailer showed Sam standing on the bed of her truck with her arms outstretched as the vehicle whipped through the tunnel. The final moment of the trailer similarly showed Charlie on the truck while his voice-over said the book's famous quote: "And in this moment, I swear we are infinite."

"It was awesome. It was really cool," Lerman told MTV News backstage as he recalled the scene. "It was just a magical moment, one of those organic, magical movie moments. ... We just had a good time. It was a blast."

Watson was up for Best Kiss with co-star Rupert Grint for their smooch in "Deathly Hallows, Part 2" but lost to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1." But just because the actress didn't win this time around doesn't mean she'll miss out on the award next year. In "Perks," Charlie develops a crush on Sam as their friendship grows, leading up to an inevitable lip-lock. While the trailer didn't show the special moment, it did reveal some intimate scenes between the characters, and later, Lerman recalled his kiss with the "Harry Potter" actress saying, "It's kind of odd when you're doing it for a movie. It's kind of weird. She's cool. It wasn't as awkward as it could have been. It's Emma Watson, so I'm a lucky guy."

Another exciting clip gave fans a glimpse at the adaptation of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Miller's character, Patrick, is a flamboyant thespian who helms the part of the British rock musical's emcee Frank N. Furter. When we spoke to the actor on the red carpet, he told us the role almost made him ditch film in favor of taking the "Rocky Horror" stage full time. "I was very grateful to even be able to [act in the musical], and I had this moment where I was like, 'I might do "Rocky Horror Picture Show" forever. That might be it,' " he said.

Fortunately, for those who want to continue to catch Miller on the big screen, he talked himself out of it. He might want to consider a career in action films next. Towards the end of the trailer, there's an intense scene where Patrick and Brad (Johnny Simmons), the high school quarterback, fight in the school cafeteria. Simmons described the brawl as both "physical and emotional," revealing that neither actor held back during filming. "We both kind of agreed that we were gonna go for it and really fight it out," he said. "I jacked up my knee, which was a battle scar. It was fun and worth it. I think it turned out good from what I've heard."

Miller agreed, telling us that he and Simmons wanted the fight to look realistic, because it's vital to the development of both of their characters. "It was hard. We all got bruises. That's how you make a fight," he explained. "I've made fights before in movies and it happens the same way. If there's one thing you can expect from the the MTV Movie Awards, it's stars and surprises. One of those combo moments occurred last night with the presentation of Movie of the Year by Oscar winner Jodie Foster to her "Panic Room" co-star Kristen Stewart and the rest of the cast.

When MTV News caught up with Foster following her presentation, we asked her about the experience and what it meant to be able to give the Golden Popcorn to her onetime onscreen daughter.

"[It was] totally fun. I've been watching all these years. It's exciting," she said of being able to present to Stewart. "When I met her, she was 9 or 10 years old. I adore her. I spent 110 days in a very small room with that girl, and I'm just so proud to see what an amazing lady she's turned into."

When asked for her thoughts on the "Twilight" phenomenon, Foster said that there is undeniable "magic" in Stephenie Meyer's books.

"It's an amazing thing. There is something behind those books, a magic behind those books that people relate to, 'The Hunger Games' as well. My kids read those and gobbled them up. [The books] have started a whole new zeitgeist. It's sort of changed the world. People got into vampires from 'Twilight,' and I don't think the world will be the same."

Lauryn Hill Supports Nicki Minaj's Summer Jam Cancellation

'We have to find a better way to commercially exploit music, while giving artists their proper respect,' Hill says in a written statement.

Nicki Minaj had grand plans for Hot 97's Summer Jam on Sunday night, but there's some discrepancy about who was supposed to appear during her headlining set. Lauryn Hill, who surprised fans when she came out during Nas' performance, wants to set the record straight.

"No disrespect to Nicki, but I need to clear up an inaccuracy. I was not scheduled to be a special guest on her set at Summer Jam, I was invited by Nas to perform with him," Hill said in a written statement sent out via Twitter on Monday (June 4).

Last night, Nicki tweeted that before she and Lil Wayne pulled the plug on her performance, she was set to bring out Cam'ron, 2 Chainz, Nas, Hill, reggae star Beenie Man, Foxy Brown and a number of her YMCMB labelmates as surprise guests, not to mention Weezy himself. But after Hot 97 morning show host Peter Rosenberg trashed Nicki's "Starships" single in front of concertgoers, Wayne took to Twitter to announce that no artists from the YMCMB roster would be performing at Summer Jam.

Lauryn did come out and treat fans to "Ready or Not" and "Lost Ones" during Nas' own set but she felt it necessary to clear up the confusion, even expressing her support for Nicki's decision not to perform.

"I don't have details on exactly what transpired between the station and the artists, but I do support artists standing by their beliefs and walking with integrity," she wrote. "We have to find a better way to commercially exploit music while giving artists their proper respect. This cannot be done while taking their contributions for granted or trying to control the scope of their growth and power through threats and fear tactics."

The iconic hip-hop star went on to encourage industry power-brokers to do better. "We can do better than this, there is a better way, or else 'we' (the proverbial we) find ourselves in danger of being hypocrites," she added.

It was all very touching to Nicki, who in turn clarified the situation. "Thank u Lauryn. Nas was coming out on my set, u were coming out 2 perform w/him. That was within my set that was going 2 continue w/foxy," she wrote after re-tweeting Ms. Hill's statement for all of her fans to see.

On her 2009 mixtape cut "Can Anybody Hear Me?" Nicki raps about the hardships she once faced when walking into record labels where she was often compared to Lauryn Hill because she wanted to rap and sing. To be supported by one of her musical idols was touching for the Young Money star. "Coming from Lauryn it means the world. No one deserves this treatment. We're all out here working. Have respect for your guests. #thatsall," she tweeted.

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — We're glad we weren't the only ones having a great time at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night. Some of our favorite celebrities in attendance took to Twitter to share with the world that MTV's annual celebration of film was just as fun in person as it was to watch on the small screen.

Following her presentation of the "Perks of Being a Wallflower" trailer and the "Harry Potter" wins for Best Cast and Best Hero, Emma Watson took to Twitter to thank the one group of people who have always stood behind her: her fans.

The performers of the night were also quick to share their excitement about performing on the Gibson Amphitheatre stage. Opening band Fun. tweeted that they "had a blast" at the MTV Movie Awards, and we bet they're even more thrilled now that they know Vanilla Ice enjoyed their performance as well.

Janelle Monáe, who performed alongside Fun., thanked the band for allowing her to participate. "Thank you @ournameisfun for having me on The MTV Movie Awards!!!" she said. "Very fun! ;-) Proud of you! :)" She then became the envy of many when she tweeted a picture alongside Johnny Depp.

Wiz Khalifa, who took the stage later during the Movie Awards, gave us a running commentary of the show from his seat. Following the debut of his song "Work Hard, Play Hard," he tweeted, "Thnx Guys!!! I Shredded That Bitch :-)," and later added that he "made love to tha stage." It was only later that he noticed, "Haha My Shirt Said Sex." He also must have gotten a kick out of Charlie Sheen tweeting at him. Wiz's fiance, Amber Rose, tweeted how proud she was of her "baby."

"The Hunger Games" stars were psyched to dominate the MTV Movie Awards with four wins, but Elizabeth Banks was more excited about how she was "literally carried away" before she could thank her fans. Alexander Ludwig just couldn't get over the fact that he had won his first Golden Popcorn (for Best Fight), tweeting, "the mtv awards...what a surreal night. can't thank my fans enough. i definitely wouldn't be here without u....peace."

"The Twilight Saga" stars just had fun hanging out at the Movie Awards, especially since it's basically their second home by now. "Thanks @thePaulMcDonald for documenting my 'lowest' moments. Get it? Lowest?" Nikki Reed tweeted along with a picture of her and Jackson Rathbone looking indignant about their lack of popcorn (edible, not Golden). Rathbone also tweeted up a storm from his Movie Awards seat.

And how can we forget our illustrious host? Russell Brand only tweeted one picture from his time on host duty, and it's one of the cutest things we've seen in a while. "My highlight of the MTV Movie awards," he wrote, along with a picture of him and his "nan" on the Movie Awards stage. All together now: Awwww.

'Game Of Thrones' Finale: Is Theon Dead Or Alive?

Alfie Allen teases his character's fate in season three for MTV News.

Last night's "Game of Thrones" finale ended with quite a few loose ends and cliffhangers, but no one was left . His fate is unclear, and even star Alfie Allen doesn't know what's in store for Theon next season.

"Basically, the way I go out I could be dead or I could be alive, and I still don't know whether I am or not in a way. It's scary," Allen told MTV News last week. "The tension continues, even in real life."Warning: several "Game of Thrones" and "A Song of Ice and Fire" spoilers ahead.

Theon's character is absent from the "Song of Ice and Fire" series for several novels, so many assume he's dead. It's not until the fifth book, "A Dance With Dragons," that we get confirmation, and that revelation is potentially three or four seasons down the road for the HBO TV series (depending on how show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss opt to split up the books). The big question is how long we'll have to wait to see Theon again. Will he be incorporated into the third and fourth season plotlines? Apparently, those discussions don't yet involve Allen.

"I don't know anything, I have not got a clue," Allen insisted. "I wish I did, but they're just like that — Dave and Dan, they like to keep you on your toes," he explained. "But it's cool, it's great. I'm up for it, I'm game. Just looking forward to maybe being in [season] three, maybe not, [but] I'm looking forward to seeing what happens."

The actor has only read up through the series' third book, "A Storm of Swords," so he doesn't know quite how Theon's story will unfold in the fifth title, "A Dance With Dragons." He has, however, been told that there's at least one scene he should be excited about filming.

"I've heard about the tree scene, people told me about the tree, in front of the tree," he said, referencing a moment in "Dance" where Theon gets emotional in the Winterfell Godswood. "Breaking down and begging for forgiveness in front of it — that sounds brilliant and I can't wait. If things go that far, that would be amazing."

Fans might be hating Theon right now, especially after Winterfell was destroyed in last night's episode, but don't worry, they might like him further down the road. At least, they might not hate him as much.

"It's brilliant. I think [Theon] just later on in the books gets a chance to redeem himself slightly. You definitely feel sorry for him at that point in the series, maybe all stuff in beginning will be [foregone] and you'll concentrate on ... it's pretty deep what happens to him," Allen continued, teasing more "Dance" plotlines. "I think he gets tortured quite a lot and he believes he's someone else for a point and gets psychologically tortured as well. As an actor, you couldn't ask for any more. It's going to be great, I can't wait."

What do you hope is in store for "Game of Throne" in season three? Tell us in the comments!

Fun. Go To War In New 'Some Nights' Video

Following their Movie Awards Performance, Fun. debut a stirring new clip on MTV.
By James Montgomery

Fun. hit the battlefield in their new "Some Nights" video, which premiered Monday (June 4) on MTV. Though this isn't your run-of-the-mill military clip (pay attention, Katy Perry), mostly because it's not entirely clear whether the war unfolding around them is real or simply playing out in their minds.

Because sure, the clip very artfully showcases a battle between Union and Confederate soldiers, with Fun. performing on a makeshift stage in the middle of the firefight — a nod to the tune's military-esque drum cadence — but it's more probable in this instance that the warriors (and, really, the war itself) are metaphorical, representing the eternal struggle between two very similar, yet diametrically opposite, sides of frontman Nate Ruess's brain.

After all, "Some Nights" is very much about the inner battle he — and most of us, really — faces on a daily (or nightly) basis: the challenge of trying to find a balance between wildly different desires, of giving in to basic instincts one moment, then attempting to walk the moral tightrope the next. There is genuine guilt and frustration and even actual anger ... he can't believe he acts the way he does, and yet, he cannot imagine acting any other way. And above all else, he truly can't comprehend how one person can be this complex, this hell-bent on destruction. Like he sings in the song's opening verse "Some nights, I stay up cashing in my bad luck/Some nights, I call it a draw/Some nights, I wish that my lips could build a castle/Some nights, I wish they'd just fall off."

So really, there's a Civil War playing out in his own brain, one that seemingly pits the genteel North versus the savage South. Only, much like we learn in conclusion of the "Some Nights" video, sometimes those roles are actually reversed. (In the vid, we see a handsome, well-heeled Union soldier brutally stab a gentle-hearted Confederate man.) And that's what makes the video so smart, really ... thanks to director Anthony Mandler, they've created a combat clip that's as visually arresting as it is deep. There are wars being waged inside each of us, no matter how hard we try to avoid them. And there are always going to be casualties. After all, emotional conflicts are usually just as bloody as the actual thing.

'Perks Of Being A Wallflower' Stars Still Have Battle Wounds From Filming

Johnny Simmons tells MTV News he and co-star Ezra Miller didn't hold back during their cafeteria fight scene.

The long-awaited "Perks of Being a Wallflower" trailer finally made its debut at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show on Sunday. The sneak peek showed many of the key moments in Stephen Chbosky's story, including a glimpse at the characters' adaptation of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and the "epic" tunnel scene.

The most powerful moment, however, came when Patrick (Ezra Miller), a flamboyant thespian, engaged in a physical fight in the high school cafeteria with Brad (Johnny Simmons), the head jock. When MTV News spoke with Simmons, he described the scene as one of his favorites to shoot, despite its intensity.

"For those who haven't seen the movie, there's two characters, a quarterback and kind of the more artist crowd and the more indie crowd, and they end up going head to head with each other," the actor explained. "I thought it was a really neat scene to shoot and we really actually went for it, me and Ezra."

Brad and his friends on the football team cause tension in the film as the typical school bullies, while Patrick, his sister Sam (Emma Watson) and Charlie (Logan Lerman) are the "misfits" — labeled by Sam in the trailer — happy to keep to themselves. When the two cliques finally clash, they don't hold back on the force of their swings.

"It's both physical and emotional, but Ezra's incredible and he kind of stuck there with it the whole day. We both kind of agreed that we were gonna go for it and really fight it out," Simmons continued. "I jacked up my knee, which was a battle scar. It was fun and worth it. I think it turned out good from what I've heard."

Miller agreed, telling us that he and Simmons had to fight to make the brawl look realistic. "Johnny Simmons and I, you know, [that scene] was everything for both of our characters. You have such a collision of really what Johnny and I started deciding was like, these two people's self-loathing attacking each other's self-loathing. So when the stunt choreographer said, 'We don't want this to be too dangerous,' we got angry."

Despite the warning to keep the fight safe, Miller said that the cast walked away with their fair share of bruises: "That's how you make a fight. I've made fights before in movies and it happens the same way. You plan something with the stunt choreographer, it's all well and good and then you get to it and it's like whatever happens, it's [still] a fight. To make a fight happen, you can do it quarter speed, but you're still tumbling to the ground."

Johnny Depp's Movie Awards Jam Session And His Rock And Roll Life

In honor of Depp's performance with the Black Keys, we take a look back at his lifelong love affair with rock.
By James Montgomery

As if his myriad of tattoos or swaggering, Keith Richards-indebted performances as Captain Jack Sparrow weren't proof enough, Johnny Depp's MTV Movie Awards jam session with the Black Keys definitely served notice that the Hollywood icon knows a thing or two about rock.

Of course, that Sunday-night performance — in lieu of a traditional acceptance speech for his MTV Generation Award, Depp opted instead to tear through a pair of tunes with the Keys — was just his latest rock and roll moment. Long before he was a big-screen star, music was Depp's first passion ... not to mention the reason he moved to Los Angeles in the first place.

During a 2002 appearance on "Inside the Actors Studio," Depp told host James Lipton that he received his first guitar when he was 12 years old and stole a Mel Bay chord book from a department store to learn how to play it. And during his hectic teenage years, the instrument took on near mythic proportions to him.

"At that age ... things are going haywire inside, so the guitar sort of saved me," he said. "You begin to go through puberty and I was so into my guitar, into playing, I didn't notice puberty."

He'd start playing backyard parties and snuck into nightclubs to play with his band, the Kids. Eventually Depp would drop out of high school to follow his dreams of being a professional musician and head to Los Angeles in search of a record deal, but when it didn't pan out — he was making ends meet selling pens over the telephone — the Kids broke up, and Depp began his acting career with a role in Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (though the band would reunite in 2008 at a Florida benefit show for an area manager and promoter).

But his love affair with music never really went away. He'd appear in iconic videos for Tom Petty and the Lemonheads, and formed the short-lived alt-rock band P along with Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes, who would release an eponymous album in 1995 that featured guest appearances from the likes of Flea and the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones (and exactly one ABBA cover). He was also part owner of the notorious Sunset Strip club the Viper Room, and has performed on albums by Oasis — he's credited with slide guitar on the Be Here Now track "Fade In-Out" — and Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan's first solo album.

In recent years, he's also recorded with Marilyn Manson (he plays guitar and drums on a cover of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" that appears as a bonus track on Manson's Born Villain album) and performed alongside him at the 2012 Revolver Golden Gods Awards, and has shared the stage with legends like ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Alice Cooper. And, in a bit of destiny, he's also jammed out with Keith Richards at an afterparty for Depp's 2011 film "The Rum Diary." So, if he looked like a natural up on the Movie Awards stage Sunday night, well, you can certainly understand why ... he's had a lifetime of practice.

Fun.'s Movie Awards Set Has Jen Aniston, Channing Tatum Singing Along

We say it all the time around here, "stars, they're just like us." But if you found yourself nodding your head and singing along to Fun.'s irresistible breakout hit, "We Are Young," during the band's performance
at Sunday night's MTV Movie Awards, well, then you're just like the stars.

Posted up in a tiny, crimson-lit cube and dressed in sharp white tuxedoes, the boys put as much emotion as possible into the tune (with an assist from Janelle Monáe) and the effect was infectious. Just like you were likely singing along at home, when the camera panned onto the star-studded audience it caught glimpses of Channing Tatum and wife Jenna Dewan bobbing their heads, Jennifer Aniston smiling and digging the tune and even "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart grooving in her seat.

As the crowd rhythmically clapped and sang along, rapper-turned-remodeler Vanilla Ice wasn't immune, with a big smile plastered on his face as his head nodded along. Nor was "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson, who was singing, clapping and shaking her bum to the song's towering chorus. Aniston was flanked by "Hunger Games"' Elizabeth Banks, who also wasn't shy about her enthusiasm for the song of the summer.

One of the biggest smiles was plastered on the face of "Bridesmaids" and "Office" actress Ellie Kemper, who couldn't hide her joyful ear-to-ear grin. Given the slow climb to near-ubiquity that mirrors other across-the-board smashes like "Hey Ya!" and "Crazy," it's no surprise that the audience was digging the song so hard.

See? We told you, the stars are just like us!

Ciara had been revealing exclusive details about her red-hot upcoming album One Woman Army to MTV News in the lead-up to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, and the trend continued apace on the red carpet before Sunday's telecast, as the R&B songbird opened up about the producers she's been in the studio with and exactly when we can expect her new single, "Sweat."

"It really is just me pouring my heart into the record, and I think my fans deserve that. I really had to be in a comfortable place, and I really am and I'm excited about it," Ciara told MTV News. "That's the beauty of music. Music is like really being able to express yourself. I wanted to make sure that I expressed myself in the best way that I could, and I let the music also be a healing process for me at points. There's a lot of happy moments as well, so that's what it's about. That's music."

She continued, "You laugh, you cry, you dance, you love, you hurt, you feel all kinds of things. That's the beauty of music."

While she was at first reluctant to open up too much about the producers she's been working with, saying only that the sound of One Woman Army is "all about the new movement" and that she "worked with some people that are very fresh," she eventually caved and gave MTV a few more "beans" (as she's been calling them), revealing that she's been recording with long-time collaborator Tricky Stewart ("Ride") as well as the Underdogs duo Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas.

"Of course, the obvis, Tricky, he's a part of my Epic family. We worked together," Ciara revealed. "And Harvey and Damon, it's our first time together and what we did was so special. They actually produced the title track, 'One Woman Army,' I can tell you that."

Mason Jr. and Thomas were hugely successful producers independently before coming together to form the Underdogs. Mason Jr. has won six Grammys writing and producing tracks for artists as varied as Justin Timberlake, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston and Jennifer Hudson, while Thomas was formerly a songwriting and production partner for Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, working on songs like Dru Hill's "These are the Times" and Pink's "Most Girls." Together as the Underdogs, the pair scored Grammy and Oscar nominations for the work on the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack and recently found success working with Chris Brown on his dance track "Turn Up the Music."

"I worked with some people that are very fresh, which I'm excited about," Ciara continued. "When it comes to artists, when it comes to writers, when it comes to producers, I really wanted to push. We pretty much reached out and worked with a lot of people that I've never worked with before, which is really fun."

Between Stewart and the Underdogs, on paper it seems like Ciara's Army is in pretty good hands, but the music will be speaking for itself soon enough, if the dance music princess has her way.

"The new single could be another treat on that record. Besides it being called 'Sweat,' there may be another goodie on there," she said. "If I check my skin clock it may be arriving at any second maybe. It's time to sweat."
